Returning to study

Congratulations on joining the UniSA community - especially to those doing an Early Preparation program at Mawson Lakes this week.

Clearly you’re determined to make a good start to the academic year and your new program.

Possibly you’ve already made big changes in your life just to be here. Some of our past students attending early preparation workshops have told us:
  • they never expected to be a uni student
  • they’re hoping to change career
  • they left school before finishing Year 12
  • they have full lives without adding study on
  • they’re excited but also a bit concerned that they might be biting off more than they can chew..

And it’s only a fortnight until orientation and then the start of regular classes!

Staff in Learning Connection are keen to work with you, your program staff and the UniSA community to make your experience here satisfying and successful.

Keep checking out our blog and we’ll provide regular access to terrific information and resources.

Here are a couple of postings or resources you might find useful:

Best of luck

Hi!

Welcome to our Early Preparation students. The early bird gets the worm (so to speak!)

Many of you will be reading this in your special 'Online at UniSA' session this afternoon with James. Some of the questions you identified were:

How do I prepare for study?

What is 'External' or 'Part time' study?

How do we search for references and will our lecturer guide us?

Do external students attend exams at the uni?

Are there any scholarships I can apply for?

Are there mentors available for help with academic reading and writing?

Where can I get text books?

Are there any clubs and groups?

Are there any sporting/leisure or recreational facilities on campus?

We will attend to these later, but in the meantime, do you have any other questions?

(You can post selecting 'anonymous' or 'name')

I look forward to meeting you this evening.

Andrea - I'd like to help with the question about 'searching for references'.

You can search for references by using the Catalogue and Databases provided by the Library.

Your lecturer will guide you by providing a topic for you to search for.

For help with searching see InfoGate

Welcome, and best of luck, everyone.
